Expiry of derogation to allow up to 5% non-organic feed for pigs and poultry.

You will be aware that the derogation that allows 5% non-organic feed to be fed to piglets over 35kg in weight and poultry over 30 weeks of age expired on 31 December 2025.

This means that from 1 January 2026, older pigs and poultry need to have been fed a diet that is 100% organic.

Defra agreed that from 1 January 2026 due to taking a legitimate and reasoned approach to protecting the health and welfare of their flocks, which can suffer health and behavioural issues as a result of a sudden change in diet, that producers be given 14 weeks to implement the change for poultry.  The 14 week period ends 9 April 2026, please ensure that your poultry over 30 weeks are age are on a 100% organic diet by 9 April.

There has been an extension to the derogation for piglets not more than 35kg in weight and poultry not more than 30 weeks of age, and this remains in place until 31 December 2026.
